Sybilla 2013 Distinction for JU Museum

The Sybilla 2013 competition distinction diplomaThe Ministry of Culture and National Heritage has bestowed an honour on the Jagiellonian University Museum. The jury panel of the Sybilla 2013 competition granted a distinction in the Education category to the exhibition entitled "To Touch the Image. Malczewski-Szymborska-Antoniszczak" presented at the Collegium Maius historical building.

Making culture accessible

Developed with the needs of blind and partially sighted persons in mind, the exhibition was part of the second edition of "To Touch Culture", a joint initiative of the JU Museum and the University’s Disability Support Service. As the goal of the event organisers is to make the resources of high culture and national heritage increasingly accessible to persons with various disabilities, each year at the Collegium Maius new adaptations appear of important and well-known exhibits.

Exhibits

The works on show included those by Jacek Malczewski and Julian Antoniszczak in the form of tactile graphics and an enlarged copy of the Nobel medal awarded to Wisława Szymborska adjusted to the needs of blind persons. The visitors could touch all the exhibits. All information materials were printed in Braille, with enlarged-font flat print superimposed on it, available in Polish and English. The descriptions of the exhibits were developed thanks to cooperation with blind consultants. Some of them were made available in the audio description format.
